Sometimes no matter what you do, your drums are just not as big and punchy as what you hear on other tracks. In this video, I’ll show you how to use an expander plugin to bring out the punch of the drums during mastering.
You can use the same concepts and use an expander to make your drum loops, kicks, snares, percussion and other instruments sound more punchy and give them extra attack and power.
An expander plugin is kind of the opposite of a compressor. While a compressor is designed to turn things down, an expander is designed to turn things up. It can be used to increase dynamic range and emphasize certain parts of a piece of audio.
In this video for example, the track I’m mastering sounds good, but could use some more punch and attack when it comes to the drums. So I’ll be showing you how to emphasize the drums during mastering without affecting the other parts and instruments.
